Shirley Gainey

March 7, 1942 — October 7, 2019

Graveside services for Shirley Parker Gainey age 77 widow of Julian E. Gainey, Sr.  will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery.  Rev. Ladell Humphries will officiate.

Mrs. Gainey passed away on Monday, October 7 with her family by her side.  She was born in Patrick, SC, the daughter of the late Wade H. and Myrtle Edwards Parker.  She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church.  She was a loving mother and granny.  She always gave the best gift to her family – her time – now beautiful memories we will hold dear to our hearts.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Julian and Toni Gainey, Milton Gainey, Sr.; and daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Mike Gainey all of Hartsville, SC.  Her grandchildren – who she always called her “sunshines”:  Jonathan and Susan Gainey, Milton Gainey, Jr., Brittany E. Gainey all of Hartsville, SC and Zack and Lauren Robertson of Columbia, SC. Great-grandchildren – who always brought her the brightest smiles:  James Michael and Olivia Gainey, of Hartsville, SC and Everett Robertson of Columbia, SC.  Special family who always took time for her:  Tammy Gray, George (Jamie) Kelly, Tommie and Carsandra Davis, Jackie (Mac) McEntire, Leveta (Alex) Morrison, Eddie Kelly and Phyllis Braddock.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Wiley H. Parker, and sisters, Beatrice (Carson) Kelly and Peggy (Buster) Pearce, nephew, (who was like a son), Teddy Kelly.

She was retired from Darlington County Community Action Agency where she helped many at-risk teens find employment. Her proudest moments were running into these people in their adult years and having them give her a hug and tell her what a difference she made in their lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington County Humane Society,  1625 Harry Byrd Hwy, Darlington, SC  29532 in celebration of Shirley’s love for her fur-baby Tobi.

Norton Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Gainey family.
