Jimmy C. Winburn

August 31, 1941 — February 5, 2020

This obituary is being posted as a courtesy to local family and friends of Jimmy.  All services are being held in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Jimmy C. Winburn, 78, of Ringgold Georgia received his heavenly body on Tuesday, February 5, 2020.

Jimmy was born on August 31, 1941 in Hartsville, South Carolina.  He was the son of Roy F. Winburn Sr, and Inez Winburn.  As a young man, he became a born again Christian at Mt Olivet Baptist in his hometown.

Jimmy was employed by Sonoco Products Company for 15 years before moving to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he was an educator and Pastor to the deaf at Tennessee Temple University.  After his retirement from education, he continued his business, Winburn Motor Sales, which later included Backyard Outfitters.  He was in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged after 8 years.  Jimmy enjoyed outdoor activities including snow skiing, boating, & he was an avid motorcycle rider.  He was known for his unique sense of humor and his fierce love for his family.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geraldine T. Winburn, who was his high school sweetheart.  He is also survived by his daughters, Gerri Stancil (David) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Patti Raines (Damon) of Ringgold, Georgia, and two adored grandchildren Amanda Raines, Ringgold Georgia and Jake Raines (Meredith), Nashville, Tennessee.  His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his brothers Roy F. Winburn, Jr., Hartsville, SC, Danny Winburn (Marilyn), Hartsville, SC.  He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two precious nieces, and one great-nephew.

A graveside service at the Chattanooga National Cemetery will be planned at a future date.  Donations in memory of Jimmy can be made to: The Alzheimer’s Association, 922 E. Morris St. Dalton, Georgia 30721.  Jimmy’s family is so grateful and inspired at the devotion and care provided by his loving wife.   A very special thank you to the caregivers from Emerald Coast Hospice in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida for the personal, respectful care given to Jimmy and his family.
