Weldon Gainey, Jr

February 22, 1951 — January 23, 2012

Hartsville, S.C. On January 23, 2012, after a long extended illness, a brave soldier named Cecil Gainey took his warrior walk to be with Jesus. He was surrounded by loving family and church friends who stayed bedside through it all. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4:00 at the Pine Ridge Holiness Church. Rev. Gerald Ellis & Rev. Trae Smoak willofficiate. Burial will be in the Pine Ridge Holiness Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 pm at theFuneral Home.Cecil was born in Hartsville a son of the late Weldon Cecil Gainey, Sr. & Mary Sue Teal Gainey. He was a retired Meat Cutter, a Veteran of the Vietnam War, member of the VFW and the DAV. He was a very special man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. He was truly a soldier who fought until the end. The earthly battle is over, he has won the war. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 42 years, Debra Rivers Gainey of Hartsville. He leaves behind a son Weldon (Michelle) Cecil Gainey, III, of Ruby, S.C.; a daughter, Michelle Gainey (Maurice) Ratliff of Hartsville, SC; 9 grandchildren, Weldon Gainey, IV, Blake Gainey, Caleb Gainey, Carolina Gainey, Matthew Gainey, Amber Ratliff, Angel Ratliff, Jonathan Tiller and Eric Tiller; 1 great grandchild, Cheyenne Tiller. He leaves behind 1 sister, Patricia Gainey White of Hartsville and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Gainey www.nortonfh.net.
