Thomas spent over two decades working at Rikers Island, dedicating 20 years to a career that exemplified his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. Equally notable was his commitment to education; he held three master’s degrees, a testament to his lifelong love of learning and unyielding pursuit of personal growth.

Those who knew Thomas will remember his unique and vibrant personality. He found profound joy in music and embraced his artistic talents, enriching the lives of those around him. Gifted with extraordinary storytelling abilities, Thomas had a way with words, captivating listeners with both humor and wisdom. His comedic flair brought laughter to countless moments, making every gathering brighter.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Gina Zompanis, who stood by his side with love and dedication; his children, Tessa Citera, Don Schaefer, Donna Calhoun, and Jean Paul Hervey, each of whom carries forward his legacy of kindness and resilience; and his cherished grandchildren, Alessandra Citera, Jacob Darlington, and Danielle Darlington, who brought great pride and joy to his later years. He is also survived by his brother, Andy Zompanis.

As his family mourns his passing, they also honor the fullness of his life—the lessons he imparted, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely. Thomas A. Zompanis leaves behind a legacy defined by intellect, humor, and a deep affection for those he held dear.
