Thelma A. Baker, age 93, passed away on April 27, 2025, in Bishopville.
Thelma was born in Sumter County and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ammons. She is survived by her son, Jerry Baker of Calabash,NC; daughter, Gayle Baker of Little River, SC, as well as a granddaughter, Michelle Carter (Tommy) of Rock Hill; grandsons, Ray Baker of Darlington and Jeffrey Baker (Amanda) of Huntsville, AL; five great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Anita H. Baker of Rock Hill. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Louis; two sons, Sammy Baker of Rock Hill, SC and Alan Baker of Nashville, TN; sisters Eula Scott of Charleston, Edith Cook of Sumter; and brother Thomas Ammons of Ashwood.
Thelma worked in textiles and later in public service. She retired from the City of Bishopville where she served as the Clerk-Treasurer. She was a long-time member of her church and the Pilot Club and enjoyed gardening - especially camellias and hydrangeas.
A graveside service will be held at the Piedmont Cemetery at 2 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The Family will speak to guest following the services. In her memory, donations may be made to the Lee County Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 309, Bishopville, SC 29010; Lee County, SC.
We would like to express our gratitude to Elaine and Jim Jeko, Lynn Funderburk, Stephanie Green and the hospice team for their kindness and tender loving care. We would also like to thank Marie Brown (Jerry’s partner), for sharing lots of love from her Yorkie, Luna, during visits with Miss Thelma.
