Mrs. Sarah Vardner Johnson Watson joined The Church Triumphant during the early morning hours of Saturday, December 23rd, 2023, at the age of 102.
Mrs. Watson was born in Chesterfield County, 1 of 12 children born to the late James Cordy & Katherine Howle Johnson. Sarah was a master woodworker; building cabinets and other pieces of furniture. Mrs. Johnson took great pride in growing her own food – something she contributed to her long-life. She was member of Twitty United Methodist Church and following its closing, became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a church she greatly loved. Mrs. Watson was the oldest member of “Days for Girls;” a ministry for helping young women.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Cindy (Jack) Smith of Hartsville and Rick (Debbie) Watson of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren: Paige (Kurt) Brockett, Brian (Lisa) Smith, Jed Watson, and Josh (Lynsey) Watson; great-grandchildren: Noah Brockett, Caroline Brockett, Zion Hammock, Alice Watson, Ella Smith, Josiah Smith, Sarah Smith, and Everly Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred “Ben” Watson, Sr.; son, Fred E. Watson, Jr.; and 11 siblings.
Memorial services of Remembrance will be 3:00pm Friday, December 29, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Tony Adams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in All Saints Hall at Wesley United Methodist Church.
