Sally Gandy Faile, 93, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 10,2023. Sally was born in Hartsville, SC on November 5, 1930, to James Dowell and Coela Tyner Gandy. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School and worked as secretary for Dr James B. Little of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was married in 1956 to James L. Faile, Sr of Hartsville, from whom she was widowed in 2012. They raised six children: James L Faile, Jr of Hartsville (deceased); Danny Faile of Hartsville; Cindy Faile of Mali, West Africa, and Hartsville; Jonie Garland of Hartsville; Rick Faile (Rosemary) of Columbia, SC; and Dr Barbara Moran-Faile (Mandres) of Greenville, SC. She was loving grandmother to Brian (deceased) and Kevin Faile (Callie); Jaime Dorman; Meredith Connor (William); Krystal Shope (Taylor); Joshua Moran; Isabel Moran; Jaylin Suther; and Aaron Faile. Sally was beloved “GiGi” to Peyton, Dakoda, and Avery Dorman; Waylon Connor; Lucas Shope; and Leslie Faile.
Sally was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and exemplified the heart of a servant to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her cooking was her love language and was legendary. She was a tireless and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, with a famously dry and hysterical humor. She gave of herself endlessly, and even to the very end, assured everyone that she was “fine”.
She died peacefully at her home following a brief illness, surrounded by her closest loved ones and the sounds she loved best: the reading of Scripture, the singing of hymns, the laughter of her children, and the clanking pans of a tenderly prepared meal.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Jamie St. Ours will officiate. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In honoring her spirit of feeding the hungry, memorials may be made to Harvest Hope Food Bank, 2701 Alex Lee Blvd., Florence, SC 29506 (www.harvesthope.org)
