Roy Mike Gaskins

Bethune, SC 

     Mr. Roy Mike Gaskins, 87, was called home to be with The Lord on Wednesday morning, June 26th, 2024, while at home with his family.

     Mr. Gaskins was a native and lifelong resident of Chesterfield County, a son of the late Mike & Lizzie Reynolds Gaskins. Roy was a dedicated member of the McBee Community and Union Church. He was born to a family of 9 and was known to be the “big brother.” If Mr. Gaskins heard of someone in need, he was always there to lend a helping hand. Of all his many wonderful qualities, he will be most remembered for being devoted to his family, whom he dearly loved. 

     Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Sara “Frankie” Gaskins of the home; children, Susan (Tom) Hobgood and Danny (Donna) Gaskins, both of Bethune; grandchildren: Andrea (D.J.) Starling, William (Katherine) Gaskins, Lauren (Jonathan) Leon, and Thomas (Olivia) Hobgood; great-grandchildren: Sydney Gaskins, Allie Gaskins, Everly Gaskins, Axel Starling, and Audrey Hobgood; siblings, Grady Gaskins, Joyce Perdue and Ruth Dowey; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Bobby Gaskins, J.C. Gaskins, Dorothy Mozingo, and Claudie Parker.

     His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 on Saturday morning, June 29th, 2024, from Union United Methodist Church. Reverend Charlie Short and Reverend Dale McCluney will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 5-7 at the residence, 214 Big Spring Rd., Bethune, SC 29009. 

     Serving as pallbearers will be David Outlaw, Chris Parker, Rodney Tolbert, Darrel Dowey, Dennis Gardner, Billy Tolbert, and Phillip Gardner. 

     Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Tolbert, Charles Davis, Bob Helms, Petey Mason, Wayne Boan, and Kemp McLeod.

     Mr. Gaskins also greatly loved his friends in The Men’s Club at Union Church.
