Ronald (Ron) Gene Skipper

Hartsville, SC

With hearts full of gratitude and praise, we celebrate the life of Ronald (Ron) Gene Skipper, a faithful servant of God who peacefully entered his eternal home on November 14, 2025.

His services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Norton Funeral Home Chapel in Hartsville, SC conducted by Dr. Richard (Rich) Wilson with full First Responder’s rights followed with burial at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Ron was born in Florence, SC and has lived in Hartsville since 1973. In service to the Hartsville community, Ron worked as a Volunteer Firefighter and later as a full-time Firefighter with the Hartsville Fire Department and as an E.M.T. then as a Paramedic with local ambulances during the late nineteen seventies and early eighties. His career was mostly in banking, working for over seventeen years with local banks. He served one term as South Carolina Commissioner on Consumer Affairs (1996-98). His work career ended in 2009 as Executive Director with Darlington County Habitat for Humanity when he became disabled. Even being retired with disability, Ron volunteered to serve the state of South Carolina as a State Constable (Police) for one and a half years starting January 2015. Records suggest he was the only person in the state to serve in all four categories as a “First Responder.” Ron was known by his family as the “Gentle Giant” and caretaker for all.

His values in life were God first, then much love for family and friends. He was totally in love with his wife for 52+ years. He raised his daughters the best that he could under God’s guidance, enjoyed his grandchildren which affectionately called him “Buddy” by Madison (Buddy), and “Bubu” by Dalton (Bud) and Bentley (Bud-Bud). The "Four" of them together were known as the "4 B's". A faithful servant of God, Ron enjoyed being a simple man. Surviving is his wife: Sherron Lee Skipper, Hartsville. Daughters: Candace Angel Skipper of Indiana and Christina (Christy) Gene Skipper Batts of Hartsville, SC. Grandchildren: Madison Victoria (Max) Holcombe of Florence, SC, Dalton Scott (Kaylee) Batts and Bentley Christian Batts of Hartsville, SC and Great Grandson Teddy Hudson Holcombe, Florence, SC. Father: Rev. James Belk Skipper, Darlington, Brother: James (Jim) Edwin (Lita) Skipper, Darlington. And most beloved father in-law Bobby Lee, Sr, “Pa” who he looked up to as his mentor, Hartsville, SC. He was preceded in death by his mother Minnie Irene Gardner Skipper of Darlington, SC, his sister Eileen Skipper (Glenn) Huggins, Florence, SC and Great-Grandchild Skyler Grey Holcombe, Florence, SC.
