With love and honor for one of our beloved Veterans of the United States, we regretfully announce the passing of Mr. Roger Dennis Wilks. Mr. Wilks passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 18th, 2026, while at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Wilks was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Charles Wilks & Louise Watford Gunn. Dennis was known as “the life of the party!” He loved making others laugh and would help anyone he could. He enjoyed going to his church, Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Dennis loved his family and especially children. He and his late wife owned and operated Bethune Flea Market for several years.
Mr. Wilks was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. With 20+ years of service, he traveled from Panama to Korea, Alaska and on to other locations throughout the world. He would also joke that he always wanted to go to Hawaii, but that was the one place the Army never sent him.
Surviving are his siblings: Steven (JoAnn) Wilks, Charles Lewis (Donna) Wilkes, Allan (Sharon) Wilkes, Tina (Randy) Parnell, and Artis (Mike) Bailey; nieces & nephews: Denise McLain, Jennings Wilks, Nikki Marshall, Gabe Wilkes, Kimberly Carr, Amy Bailey, Stephanie Bailey, Christopher Bailey, Chelsea Jones, and Coty Bailey; great nieces & nephews: Zachary Wilks, Gavin Wilks, John Duncan McLain and Hannah Clanton. Also surviving are numerous other nieces & nephews, who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brenda Wilks; stepfather, Arthur Gunn; nieces & nephews: Tyler Bailey, Steven Martin Wilks, Shane Marshall, and Elyce Reno.
His funeral service will be conducted at 11 o’clock on Saturday morning, March 21st, 2026, from Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Reverend David Mullen officiating. The family will be receiving friends Friday evening, March 20th, 2026, from 5-7 at Norton Funeral Home. A private committal will be held in Florence National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family is meeting at the home of Denise McClain - 1856 Ruby Rd., Hartsville.
In Dennis’ memory, please consider making a memorial to the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Building Fund – 3224 Liberty Hill Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be with Mr. Wilks’ family during this time.
