Hartsville, S.C.
Robert “Chip” Wroten Lee III
Robert “Chip” Wroten Lee III, 65, of Hartsville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer.
Born November 20, 1960, in Sumter, South Carolina, Chip was the son of the late Robert Wroten Lee Jr. and late Minnie Moore Lee.
Chip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Irby Lee. He is survived by his children, Bethany James (Charlie), Robby Lee, and Bryan Lee (Julia); his grandchildren, Irby James and Tony Charles James III; his sisters, Ginny Lee and Betsy Howle (Joel) and nieces and nephews; a cousin that was like a brother John Moore and lifelong friend Michael Monroe.
A carpenter by trade, Chip was a hardworking man who took pride in what he could build with his own hands. He carried that same determination throughout his life, working hard for as long as he was able. Away from his work, Chip enjoyed reading and was always interested in learning, expanding his knowledge, and understanding more about the world around him.
Those who knew Chip will remember his quick wit and sense of humor, as well as the stubborn streak that was unmistakably his own. He could make people laugh, stand firmly by what he believed, and leave an impression that was difficult to forget.
Above all, Chip's life will be remembered through the family he leaves behind and the many memories they shared with him. His craftsmanship can be seen in the things he built, but his greatest legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known him.
A visitation will be held Sunday September 13, 2026 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Norton Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29501, in honor of Chip's memory.
