It is with sad hearts that we announce the death of Mr. Richard Thomas Gainey age 61. Through his journey, Richard came to know His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and went to be with Him on August 21, 2025 while at the McLeod Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3:00 at the Chapel Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Keith and Rev. Timothy Gainey will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Richard was born in Columbia a son of Lucy King Kelley and the late William Thomas Gainey. He worked at Gainey Tool and Machine for a number of years and later at Stingray Boats for over 30 years. He loved Fishing , Hunting, wielding and loved his family. He would help anyone who was in need.
Surviving is his wife, Claudette Byrd Gainey, Hartsville; his mother and step father, Lucy and Willie L. Kelley, Hartsville; two daughters, Ashley Gainey, McBee and Renea (Joey) Warren, Hartsville; step daughter, Candace (Brett) Parker, Hartsville; step son, Justin (Meg) Davis, Hartsville; one sister, Norma (Bobby) Moree, Hartsville; one brother, Harold “Buddy” (Darlene) Gainey, Elgin; Mother In Law, Ethel (MeMa) Byrd, Hartsville; six grandchildren, Hunter Gainey, Cole Gainey, Hannah Warren, Hadlee Warren, Emalee Warren and Ashl
yn Warren; four step grandchildren, Jameson Parker, Paisley Davis, Brook (Michael) Catoe and Lathan Anderson.
Richard was preceded in death by his father William Thomas Gainey; one sister, Renea Gainey and his first wife, Wanda Gainey.
