Mr. Odell McKay, 79, of Bishopville, went home to be with his Lord & Savior Tuesday afternoon, January 12th, 2021, while at Prisma Health – Tuomey Hospsital.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, January 15th, 2021, from the Lucknow Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Cecil Stevens and Reverend Kathy Carr officiating. The family will be receiving friends following the service at the graveside.
A native of Elgin, Mr. McKay was a son of the late Hoover Franklin & Cornealia Watts McKay. He was a member and deacon of Lucknow Baptist Church and a proud member of the Lucknow Masonic Lodge No. 212 AFM for 40 years. Odell served with the Lee County Volunteer Fire Department for over 2 decades and achieved level of captain. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard after serving for 6 years. He retired from DuPont in Lugoff after 33 years of service. Mr. McKay loved restoring antique cars, his Gamecocks, Elvis Presley, golf carts, planting a garden, and his artistic hobbies. Odell delighted in the academic achievements and talent of his beloved daughter, Stephanie. He worked tirelessly to provide her with an advanced education. Odell was most proud when Stephanie graduated summa cum laude and earned the title of Dr. Stephanie McKay, PhD.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Sara McKay; his daughter, Dr. Stephanie McKay, PhD; his beloved dog, Moe; his brother, Alvin McKay; sisters; Emily Broom, and Estelle Gray, and special sister-in-law, Jeanette Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ardell McKay (his twin), H.F. McKay, Jr., and Archie McKay, sisters: Bernice Young, Mae Castille, and Mildred Kee.
