Norman Wayne Helms

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Helms who passed away on Sunday July 19th at the age of 82, with his loving wife and son by his side. Wayne was born on February 17th, 1944, in Charlotte, NC to Enda Ferguson Helms and Norman Helms. Throughout his life, Wayne was a native of Midland, NC moved to Atlanta, GA and eventually landed in Hartsville, SC with his wife and son, where he has resided for over 50 years. 

Wayne was very involved in his small beautiful southern town of Hartsville, SC. Wayne was in banking for over 40 years. He loved his job and helping people. He was an active member in the community as past president of the Lions Club, Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Housing Authority. He was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where he served as a past Treasurer, Royal Ambassador Leader and a Trustee.

n Wayne’s free time, he loved watching Gamecock College football, Duke University basketball, and NASCAR Racing always pulling for the Ford driver. He also was a big fan of Jerry Seinfeld.Wayne will always be remembered for his hard work ethic, his warm and friendly demeanor, loyalty to his family and his desire to help others in his career.

He is survived by Wanda Helms and Brian Helms. He is preceded in death by Norman Helms, Edna Ferguson Helms and Rhonda Helms. 

His graveside service will be held on July 26, 2026, at 2pm at Ollis Cemetery on Heaton Creek in Roan Mountain, TN. Funeral visitation will be held Thursday July 30, 2026, at Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville, SC from 4-6pm. There will be a church service following visitation at Lakeview Baptist Church, Hartsville, SC at 6:30pm. The family would like to thank all the friends, family and business associates for their care, support and compassion during this time. May Wayne rest in peace and be forever remembered with love.
