Nancy Jean Agee DeVore

Hartsville, SC

Nancy Jean Agee DeVore, age 78, died peacefully at her home in Hartsville, South Carolina on November 13, 2025. She was born February 2, 1947, and raised in Chattanooga, TN where she graduated from Chattanooga High School. She attended Middle TN State University, receiving a certificate in General Management from the American Management Association. She received her designation as a Certified Professional Secretary and a Certificate in Microcomputer Studies from Southwest TN Community College.

Nancy felt fortunate to have enjoyed a wide range of life experiences.

During her professional career she held several secretarial and administrative positions as she moved across Tennessee with her husband as he pursued his doctoral studies & clinical work, as well as raising a family of three active children. She worked as legal secretary to the Attorney General in Hamilton County, TN; worked as the secretary for Clark Maples Realty in Murfreesboro, TN; as Senior Administrative Assistant to the VP of Operations of Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN, providing secretarial coverage for the healthcare agencies establishing Hospital Wing, the helicopter emergency healthcare transport unit which remains in operation in the Memphis area. She worked as a Senior Administrative Assistant for the VP at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, as well as for the VP of ALSAC St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She later retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Group, where she had held a position as Senior Administrative Assistant to the COO, working in contracts and legal services.

Nancy always maintained a fondness for the beauty of east Tennessee. When time would permit, she accompanied her husband on bird-watching outings, fishing trips, hiking the mountains, visiting country antique dealers and rural auctions. Her great love was the time she had to spend in her home, being able to sew, quilt, read cookbooks, preserve pickles and vegetables in the fall from their garden, prepare all sorts of baked goods, and keep up with the growing brood once children came along. Nancy had a zest for life and never met a stranger. She enjoyed staying up late to watch her Hallmark movies and Korean dramas. She was always on the go and a loving grandmother to not just her grandchildren but to all of the kids’ friends. She was a miracle in life, surviving a brain tumor when her children were small and was thankful to have had the time to raise & watch her children grow. She had a grateful outlook and knew that she was blessed beyond measure. Anyone she met she left a lasting, positive impression on and she will be missed dearly.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Charles William and Mary Jane Jackson Agee, a daughter who died at birth, Anne Marie, and her husband, Jon E. DeVore. Nancy is survived by two sisters, Blanche Chamberlin and Sharon McCarty; son, Jon Eugene DeVore II, wife Kari Grosvenor and grandchildren Jonathan, Madelyn, Matthew & Michael; son, William Edwin Devore and wife Susan DeVore; daughter, Catherine Alexis DeVore and granddaughter Hadley.
