Michael Donovan Hopkins

Michael Donovan Hopkins, 78, of Matthews, NC died May 20, 2026.

Mike was born in Sumter SC and spent most of his life in Bishopville, SC before moving to Fort Mill SC and finally to Matthews NC. He worked for several dying and finishing textile companies in South and North Carolina before retiring. His favorite pastime was a good round of golf with friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Elvin M and Ruth O Hopkins, his brother William E (Bill) Hopkins and granddaughter Bethany Hopkins

Surviving are his wife Miranda Gronning Hopkins, children The Rev Dr. Mark Hopkins (Amy) of Camden, SC, Scotty M Hopkins (Megan) of Murrels Inlet SC and Sophie M Dabbs and Samuel H Dabbs (Amy) of Lexington SC. Mike had 7 grandchildren-Kaylee, Asher, Emma Rae and McClure Hopkins and Zara, Eli and and Jax Dabbs.

Also surviving are sisters Alene H Sims of Turbeville SC and Alice H Moseley of Camden SC as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Saturday June 27 at 3:00pm at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St. Fort Mill SC.
