Margie Gainey Wallace

    The family of Margie Gainey Wallace are saddened to announce the death of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Ms. Wallace went home to be with her Lord during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at the age of 89.

    Margie was born January 9th, 1936. She was the daughter of Aston and Carrie Jones Gainey.

    Ms. Wallace worked in the sewing plant for 30 years. At the age of 66, she found her favorite job - becoming a substitute teacher in the DCSD. She enjoyed this job until she was 85 years old. She was known as Grandma to all the kids in the Hartsville schools. Going to Walmart was an all-day job as she had to stop, talk, and love on each child she saw.

    She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Huggins and her son, Hamp Wallace; grandchildren: Shannon (Doug) Jordan, Grant (Kayla) Wallace, Paige (Drew) Eads; great-grandchildren: Cassie (Dalton) Price, Gracie Jordan, Ford Wallace, Emily Eads, Mia Eads, Asher Wallace, Ace Eads and Lennon Wallace; great-great-granddaughter, Blakely Price; special sister-in-law, Joy Gainey; special cousin, Roberta Jones, and special friend, Edna Mae Reynolds; also, numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

    The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice for such great care; especially her CNA, Crystal “Miss Sassy” and her beloved nurse, Jordan, who she called “Miss Bossy.”

    The funeral service for Ms. Wallace will be conducted at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, July 20th, 2025, from Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Reverend Joey Colson will officiate with the committal following in the church cemetery. The family invites friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
