Linda Warren Coates of Hartsville, South Carolina, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, August 16, 2021. Born on March 7, 1945, in Darlington County South Carolina, Linda was the daughter of the late Clyde Aladdin Warren and Grace Galloway Warren.
Mrs. Coates is survived by her son, Sammie Coates, and his wife Rev. Taylor Freeman Coates; granddaughter Ann DuBose Coates of Hartsville SC; daughter Melissa “Tisie” Coates Lalonde (Michigan); granddaughter Lily Lalonde of Michigan; grandson Tre Holder (Tessa Mac) of Michigan and great-grandchildren, Silas Holder and Pepper Holder.
Mrs. Coates graduated from Hartsville High School and Limestone University. She was employed by Sonoco Products Company and worked as a secretary in the Engineering Department up until her retirement in 1992.
Mrs. Coates was known for her zeal for life, contagious laughter, vibrant smile, love of beach music and passion for the South Carolina State Dance. Linda loved spending time with her special friends Ann, Johnnie, Jo Frieda and Linda Gail. She will always be known for her gift of gab having spent innumerable hours talking on the phone and catching up with old friends as well as making new friends on Facebook. Linda will be remembered for her love for all things southern especially sweet tea, many fun filled years of dancing with the Florence, SC Shag Club as well as her ongoing lively conversations with anyone willing to engage with her for a chat. Linda never met a stranger and to know her, was to love her. She lived her life to the fullest.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents listed above; her husband, Samuel E. “Sam” Coates; and brother, James “Jimmy” Warren.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic a celebration of life will be scheduled when it is safer to freely gather for a fun-filled event. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church P. O. Box 456, Bennettsville South Carolina, 29512.
