Hartsville, S.C.
It is with deep sorrow that the Dixon family must announce the passing of our beloved brother Larry Allen Dixon
But… it is also with great happiness that we can celebrate the life and legacy of an amazing person.
Larry was born in Hartsville, SC to Lawrence Gerald and Evelyn Atkinson Dixon. He’s has always been known as a simple, honest and hardworking man. Larry worked in construction for most of his life for various construction companies in South Carolina. You couldn’t get in the car and drive down the road without him pointing out a House that he hadn’t worked on or built at some time in his life. Later in life, he worked at the Sign Zone in Hartsville. Then working daily in his shop and doing jobs for numerous people in the community.
To his Sister, Margaret Susan Dixon, Larry was the typical older brother! There wasn’t a day growing up, that he didn’t beat me up! Later in life, no phone call or conversation ended until he said “I Love You”. Yet simple, it was always so sincere. To me, he was the “Engineer” of the family. He could fix anything! The jack of all trades, master of all. I know he had to be tired of my weekly calls to come fix something at the house. Even though he would fuss, he would always say, “I’ll be there in a minute” And when he fixed it. It was always right.
To his Brother, Brandon Gerald Dixon, he was not only a teacher, mentor, but a best friend! After Brandon Left the Navy and returned home to South Carolina, Larry and Brandon constantly spend numerous hours in the shop working on something. Most of the time, it was a old 1969 Chevrolet Pickup Truck. Cutting, grinding and welding! I know he will be up in heaven taking great pride in the fact that the two of them got that old truck running down the highway again.
To Larry’s Neice’s and Nephews, Ashton Elmore, Brooklyn Elmore and Riley Dixon. He loved you all. Even though you all lived miles and states away, he Loved You!!
To his Dog, Dixie, the statement “ A dog may only be a part of your life, but to them, you are their whole life” didn’t apply. Larry only spent one night away from his beloved companion. It is true, that a dog is a man’s best friend.
So, as we are all left to grieve… It is great comfort to know that Larry was an amazing brother, uncle, nephew, dog dad and friend. A man who was only one phone call away. A man who would always be there when you needed him. A man who was quite, but could carry on a conversation about anything. He will be loved and missed by many, but hopefully a smile and fond memory will come to mind when thinking of him.
