Kathy Celeste Johnson Evans, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence on March 27, 2026. Born on January 15, 1953, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Kathy’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished family moments.
Kathy was renowned for her lovingly stubborn and sassy personality, a trait that endeared her deeply to those who knew her. Her zest for life was most evident during her favorite times of the year—Halloween and New Year's Eve, when she delighted in decorating with enthusiasm and creativity. The glow of fireworks on New Year's Eve mirrored the spark she brought into the lives of her family and friends.
An avid lover of video games, especially solitaire, Kathy found joy in simple pleasures. Yet, nothing compared to the happiness she experienced spending time with her grandchildren and her cherished family. These moments, filled with warmth and connection, were the heartbeats of her days.
Kathy’s devotion to her family was profound. She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Mr. Franklin Daniel Evans, Sr., and their children: daughters Kimberly Evans O’Neal (Randy) and Elizabeth "Lisa" Wilkes (Jeff), and son Franklin Daniel "Dan" Evans, Jr., all of Hartsville. She took immense pride in her grandchildren—Dalton O’Neal (Shaira), Morgan O’Neal, Courtney Patrick (Peyton), Kaitlin Campbell (Dylan), Daniel Evans, and Celeste Wilkes—and delighted equally in her six great-grandchildren whose lives she enriched with her tender spirit. Kathy also treasured her brother Freddie Johnson (Lynn), who survives her.
Her passing follows the earlier loss of her beloved parents, Carlisle and Eatherree Hall Johnson, and her brother Morgan Johnson, who preceded her in death.
Kathy Celeste Johnson Evans leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joyful memories. Her spirit remains a guiding light to all who were fortunate to know her, a tender reminder of the beauty found in family bonds and the heartfelt celebration of life’s simple joys.
