On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 25th, 2025, Mildred Kathleen “Kat” Vining Winburn, went home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 98.
Mrs. Winburn was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Walter & Mattie Blume Vining. A woman of faith, Kat spent her life studying God’s word and telling others about His love and grace. She faithfully served Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and later, Emmanuel Baptist Church as long as her health would allow. From being a Sunday School teacher to leading the choir, wherever she was needed, she would serve. Work was never something she shied away from. She would spend countless hours each day working in her yards, something she was well known for. Kat retired from Dixie Cup in Darlington after many years of service. One of the highlights of her life was when she went to the Holy Land. She mentioned many times how grateful she was to be able to walk where Jesus once walked.
Surviving are her children: Ronald (Cheryl) Winburn, Jerry (Jean) Winburn, Judy (Mack) Ousley, and Mike (Debbie) Winburn; grandchildren: Kenny (Michelle) Winburn, MacKel (Chris) Maleckar, Phil (Gretchen) Ousley, Megan (Ed) Galloway, and Devin Winburn; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Francis “Frank” Lovelace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie Lee Winburn; grandson, Jody Winburn; siblings: Thomas Vining, Otto Vining, Jesse “Bozo” Vining, Curt Vining, Eloise Broadway, Thelma “Pete” Waynick, Pansy Summerton, George “Dick” Vining, Cecil Vining, Leila Mae Bell, and Mattie “Monkey” Edwards.
The service in celebration of her life will be conducted at 3 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, November 30th, 2025, from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Reverend Danny Winburn and Devin Winburn will officiate with a committal following in Darlington Memory Gardens. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to: English Meadows, Agape Hospice, Geraldine Bacote, and Martha Peterson for their tender care of “grandma” for many years.
The family is meeting at the home of Ron & Cheryl Winburn – 2020 Ousleydale Rd., Hartsville.
Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be with the Winburn family during this time.
