Junius Wesley Gainey

Hartsville, SC 

     On Friday morning, May 8th, 2026, Mr. Junius Wesley Gainey was called home to be with his Lord and Savior.  Wesley passed away under the care of hospice while at his residence with his loved ones.  He was 83 years old.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 12 at 3:00 at the Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Rusty Conyers, Rev. Grover Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Wesley was born in Hartsville a son of the late Clayton Jerome Gainey and Mattie Lee Gainey. He was a faithful member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He retired from Merita Bread Company; was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Fire Brigade and served in the Vietnam War. He loved to fish and travel the United States.

Surviving are four children, Darrell (Lorrie) Gainey, Stacy Blackwell, Kathy Sheffield and Wayne (Shon) Grantham; two sisters, Earline Ingram and Eunice Alexander; six grandchildren, Brandy (Jason) Kelly, Ken Sheffield, Kayla (Justin) Hawksworth, Travis (Oliva) Blackwell, Zachary (Magen) Gainey, Nicholas (Caroline) Gainey, Morgan (Jeremy) Gainey and Haylie (Jessie) Blackwell; 12 great grandchildren, Brianna (Zack) Williams, Tristan (Taylor) Beasley, McKinley (Tate) Watford, Zoe Sheffield, Sara Jo Hawksworth, Trenton Hawksworth, Tatum Gainey, Cooper Gainey, Dargan Gainey, Briggs Gainey, Demi Gainey and Presley Davis; six great-Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Atkinson Gainey; Son, Johnny Grantham; Grandson, Trent Grantham and a brother, E.J. Gainey.
