Julia Thigpen Winborne

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mrs. Julia Thigpen Winborne. Mrs. Winborne age 88 passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at Morrell Nursing Center after a year of deteriorating health.

She was born March 18, 1938, in Burgaw, NC to Patick Thigpen and Juia Mae Bland Thigpen. She attended Burgaw High School and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1958. She then attended Miller Motte Business School in Wilmington, NC. She was employed by Hughes Brothers in Wilmington and later other Businesses as a bookkeeper. She married Jesse Winborne on June 28, 1964, from Darlington SC. They lived in Hartsville, SC more than sixty years. She was a loving wife, a friend to many children, especially neighborhood children who loved her. She always enjoyed having her nieces and nephews spend days with her during the summer. She had many hobbies, she enjoyed photography, was a historian, a meticulous bookkeeper, event planner and collector. She was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church and always arrived early for the services.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, many unofficial nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Rebecca Thigpen Speir, Carl Thigpen, Sr., Thomas Thigpen and David Thigpen.

Memorial services will be held 11:00am Tuesday from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Hughes will officiate. A visitation time of remembrance will follow the services.
