Joyce Griggs Gainey

We are saddened to announce the passing of Joyce Griggs Gainey, age 79, widow of William R. (Billy) Gainey, Sr.  Funeral services will be held 11:00am Wednesday at Fourth Street Baptist Church.  Pastor Kenny Lynch and Pastor Buddy Amerson will officiate.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gainey passed away Sunday, May 09, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Hartsville the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Hannah Haney Griggs.  She was a lifetime member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.  Joyce previously worked at BC Moore & Sons, she was well known as a social butterfly.  She enjoyed gardening, especially her beautiful roses.  One of her favorite times was spent shopping at Hamrick’s.  She dearly loved her family and spending time with them.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Rudy (Amy) Gainey, Florence; daughter, Trena (Tony Griggs) Jones, Hartsville; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tyler) Watford, Florence, Julia Gainey, Hartsville; sisters, Shirley Brown, Hartsville, Janice Bowen, Hartsville, Gail (Henry) Dalrymple, Hartsville, Charlotte (Leo) Outlaw, Hartsville; brother, Leon (Shirley) Griggs, Darlington; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Jones and a sister Addie Priest.

Norton Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Gainey family.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Fourth Street Baptist Church, 501 Fourth Street, Hartsville, SC 29550 or a charity of one's choice.
