     The family of Jonathan Sory “Tommy” Thompson, Jr., 73, sadly announces his homegoing on Friday morning, January 26th, 2024, while at home with his family.

     Tommy was born in Hartsville on September 19th, 1950, to the late Jonathan Sory, Sr. & Eva Dell King Thompson.   He was a graduate of Bishopville High School and Sumter Technical College.  He worked for several years at Winn-Dixie in Hartsville and Camden before going to work for the SCDOT, where he later retired from.  Tommy loved The Lord and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Camden.  

     Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Marie Creed Thompson; children: Jonathan Sory (Jamie) “Trey” Thompson, III, Jerry (Dawn) Creed, and Janie Norton; grandchildren: Cole Thompson, Peyton Thompson, Sawyer Norton, JD Creed, Ryan Floyd, Jacob Neal, and Zachary Neal; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathy (Tommy) Drinkard; as well as several nieces and nephews; in addition, he will be missed by many friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen Creed; and one nephew.

     His funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, January 28th, 2024, from Antioch Baptist Church.  Reverend Danny Hedgepath and Reverend Kenneth Bouldin will officiate with burial following in the St. Matthew Christian Church Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

     Serving as Pallbearers will be: Justin Boyce, Marshall Boyce, JD Creed, Jacob Neal, Paul Davis, and Mitch Stines.  

     Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ned Murphy, Eddie Munn, Marvin Simon, Curtis Benjamin, and JT Munn.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741 or to a local animal shelter of your choice.  

     Norton Funeral Home & Crematory of Bishopville is honored to be serving the Thompson family.
