Graveside services for Jessie Bernard Avins, Sr. age 83, will be held Thursday at 3:00 at the Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Nathaniel (Nat) Brown and Timothy Baird will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday 1:30 – 2:30 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Avins was born in Sumter a son of the late Hewitt Avins and Mary Geddings Avins. He worked at L.L. Wilson and Darlington Oil Company as a Truck Driver for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Timmy) Baird, Bishopville and Beverly Ann Gardner, Sumter; one son, Jessie B. Avins, Jr., Sumter; three grandchildren, Rebecca Gardner, Sumter, Justin (Shelby) Baird, Longview, TX and Shelton Baird, Bishopville; two great grandchildren, Camilla Baird and Theo Baird; one half brother, Christopher Wright, Sumter; one sister, Ida Marie Wright, Michigan.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace Avins, Hal Avins and J.W. Garrett.
