Jerome Daniel "Danny" Kirkland, born on January 22, 1957, transitioned to eternal rest on June 29, 2025, at the age of 68. A man of remarkable character and unwavering dedication, Danny was not only a skilled mechanic but also an emblem of love and resilience, having proudly served at Pee Dee Fleet until his retirement, where he earned the affectionate moniker of “OG” for his wisdom and guidance.
He was a devoted father, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his children: Daniele Owens (David), Dewey Kirkland (Stephanie Baily), Charles Leonard, Michael Leonard, Eli Kirkland, Nick Kirkland, and bonus-daughter Anina Rauf. His grandchildren, Julian Kirkland, Wyatt Kirkland, Courtney Kirkland-Howle (Caleb), Rebecca Owens, Haylee Owens, and Marissa Owens carry forward his spirit and values, along with a great-grandson, Kolten Kirkland Howle, who will continue to remember his tribute to life.
Danny's heart overflowed with affection for his family and friends, encapsulated in cherished memories of laughter and support. He took immense pride in his interests, which included the allure of beaches and mountains, while his passion for collecting antique bottles and furniture reflected his appreciation for the beauty and history embedded within these objects.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dewey Howard Kirkland and Carrie Lee Butler Kirkland, his daughter Rebecca Kirkland, and his wife, Janie Kirkland, whose absence has carved profound hollows in the hearts of all who knew him.
As an organ donor, Danny’s legacy extends beyond his years; in his passing, he bestowed the gift of life through the donation of both kidneys, a testament to his selflessness and commitment to others. His memory will be honored and celebrated in a visitation on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed seamlessly by a funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM, both held at Norton Funeral Home And Crematory in Hartsville, South Carolina. Rev. Glenn White will officiate, burial will be in the Kirkland Family Cemetery, 1402 Scott Pond Road, Hartsville, SC 29550
Surrounded by the special bonds he forged with his brother Hiram Kirkland, niece Glinda Dixon, and his cherished pets—Sammy, Rosie, Harley, Cricket, and Josie.
Norton Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to be of service to the Kirkland family.
