Mr. James Benton (Jimmy) Smith age 73 passed away December 30 at Carolina Pines RMC.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday January 3 at 11:00 am at Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday 9:30 am - 10:30 am at the funeral home.
Our brother, James Benton Smith, passed away due to a brief illness. Jimmy was born March 24, 1949,in Hartsville, SC to the late Benton Claude Smith and Theo Irby Smith. His
grandmother, the late Sarah Clark Smith, was also of the home. He is survived by his brother, Michael Smith of Hartsville, SC and his sister, Martha Smith (James) Hayes of Jefferson, SC, a niece, Bettina Rayfield of Murrells Inlet, SC and a very special great-niece, Sarah Hayes of Jefferson, SC.
Jimmy is a graduate of Hartsville High School. His favorite employment over the years was working for the Hartsville Recreation Department and best known for being a softball umpire. He loved sports and working out at the gym. He has battled heart disease for many years. He had compassion for animals and loved his pets deary. He was known for riding his dogs around town, feeding homeless animals and leaves behind his cats.
