James Harold Gardner

It is with sad hearts that we announce the death of Mr. James Harold Gardner, age 83. Mr. Gardner passed away June 16, 2026 at his residence.

Our beloved father and grandfather, James Gardner, has left this earth to be with his heavenly family. While he will be truly missed, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace.

A proud veteran and dedicated public servant, James served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he went on to build a meaningful career as a civil servant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. In his later years, he found great joy in mechanic work, spending his time fixing vehicles at his family’s garage in Hartsville, SC.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Parnell Gardner; his father, Glenn W. Gardner Sr.; and his brother, Woody Gardner.

He is survived by his son, Jimmy Gardner, and his wife, Linda; and his daughter, Renee Taylor, and her husband, David. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Taylor Floyd, Chandler  (Maddy) Gardner, Stormy Taylor, Cody Taylor, and Madi Gardner; his great-grandson, Cameren Lambert; three sisters; Dora Ann (Bobby) Gordon. Dorthy (Neal) Kurtz, Ilene Beasley; three brothers; William Ben (Susan) Gardner, Calvin (Wanda) Gardner and Allen Gardner and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday June 20, 2026 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Norton Funeral Home in Hartsville. Burial will be later at the Florence National Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.
