Gene Byerly Gilbert

     It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Gene Byerly Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, while at home.

     Gene was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Tom & Gladys Register Gilbert. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Gilbert went in the Infantry, to Artillery, to the Honor Guard, and finally, MP. He loved his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Surviving is his daughter, Tammy (Richard) Besch; grandchildren: Ricky (Tiffany) Besch, Ashley (Chuck) Norris, Brandi Besch; great-grandchildren: Emmett Besch, Savanna Besch, Sawyer Besch, Beaux Norris, and Pepper Norris.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katie Gilbert; sisters: Christine (James) Long, Elizabeth “Lib” (Charles) Morrell, and Lois “Bobby” Register. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry Mallard & Rosie Gilbert, and Samuel William Register & Modene Register.

     The date and time of his funeral service will be confirmed on Monday.
