Dorothy Odom Jones

Mrs. Dorothy Odom Jones, 79, of Hartsville passed away Wednesday morning, September 27, 2023, while under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Jones was the last of 3siblings born in Darlington County to the late W.T. Odom Jr and Dorothy Mae Knotts. She was born in Hartsville where she has lived her entire life. Educated in the Hartville area schools and Florence Darlington Technical College. She worked for many years as a seamstress at Hartsville Manufacturing Company and retired from Blue Cross, Blue Shield as a Claims Adjuster. She loved baking cakes and catered for many social events. She enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball, playing “Words with Friends”, talking about the daily Soaps with her good friend, Helen and watching Hallmark Movies. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, baking goodies and spending time with her family. She loved to travel to the mountains of N.C. (Maggie Valley) and visit with her son and his family in Arizona.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Ike Jones. 2 daughters, Beth (Danny) Ivey and Susan (Fred) Melton. Son, Bill (Melissa) Jones. 6 Grandchildren - Amber Wilks, Brandi Wilks, Colby (Jennifer) Melton, Mekaela Grace Jones, Jacob William Jones, Elliana Faith Jones. 1 Great granddaughter – Rylee Wilks and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Mrs. Jones has been in declining health over the past several years. The family is requesting no home visitation at this time.

The service in celebration of her life will be conducted by the graveside of Darlington Memory Gardens at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, September 29^th, 2023, with Pastor Craig Tedder and Dr. Sara Odom officiating.  The family will be speaking with friends following the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made, in her honor to Amedysis Foundation and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
