Donald Duane (Don) Powell

Mr. Donald (Don) Powell, 80 of Darlington, SC formerly of Graham, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 28th 2024

He was born in Springfield, OH on March 20, 1943 to Timothy Curtis and Clara Ellen Meacham Powell.

He served as an airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force. Don moved to North Carolina in the late 70's opened his own automechanic shop in Graham, NC.

After he retired he moved to Darlington, SC to be with his daughters.  

Mr. Powell was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved metal detecting and coin collecting. He never met a stranger and could always be counted on for a good joke.  

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie Powell of Burlington, NC. His ex-wife and mother of his children Emma Powell of Springfield, OH,  His daughters, Barbara (Keith) Storms of New Carlisle, OH, Jane Warren of Darlington, SC, Katrina Legg of Huntington, WV and Melissa (Michael)Barefoot of Darlington, SC. 3 grandchildren -  Ashley (Josh) Colegrove of LeSage, WV, Wesley Williams of Huntington, WV, Will (Hayley)Barefoot of Jacksonville, Florida and Jayden Barefoot of Darlington, SC.  7 great grandchildren - Adalyn, Noah, Aaliyah, Mason, Evan, August and Gavin and one great great grandson, Hayes. One sister - Faith Miller of Reidsville, NC and several nieces and nephews and his good friend of many years, Hal Robinson of North Carolina.

Other than his parents he was preceeded in death by 4 brothers - Merill, Emmanuel,Timothy Leland (Bill) and Clayton (Shug) Powell, 3 sisters -  Mattie Oakley, Iola Foster, and Dessie Gilbert, 2 grandsons - Cody Storms and Jeremy Risner, a great grand daughter - Alannah Williams,and a Son-in-Law Mark Legg along with several nieces and nephews. 

-Norton Funeral Home and Crematory of Hartsville, SC is in charge of arrangements.
