Donald Ray Horton

Donald Ray Horton, a beloved husband, father, brother, papa and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at his home in McBee, South Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 2, 1955, in Hartsville, Donald’s life was marked by a warm spirit and a dedication to his family and community.

Donald worked as a sewing mechanic at Mar Mac, where his skill and commitment were highly valued. Beyond his career, he was a true people person who never met a stranger and cherished the moments spent with those he loved.

An avid enthusiast of the outdoors and leisure, Donald enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and playing golf, passions that brought him joy and camaraderie. His love for "junkin'" saw him frequenting flea markets such as Goodwill, Habitat, Mount Croghan Flea Market, and visiting Tolson Pawn Shop—places where he found delight and connection.

Donald was blessed with a close and loving family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Kelley Horton of McBee; his sons, Steven Horton (Ashley Snow) of Kelleytown, and Kevin Horton and his wife Cammie of McBee; his brother, Dennis Horton and his wife Gedelle of Hartsville; as well as cherished grandchildren Westen Horton, Hazley Horton, and Kaden Contreras. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Minor Horton and Elsie Joyce Sullivan Horton, and his brother, Mike Horton.

Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Saturday from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Pastor Danny Holley will officiate, with burial in McBee Cemetery. Visitation will held from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
