David Russell Smith

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. David Russell Smith, 64, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at MUSC in Florence, South Carolina.

Born on June 16, 1962, David will be remembered with love by those who knew him and by the family who shared in his life. His passing brings deep sorrow, but also gratitude for the years, memories, and bonds that remain so meaningful to those he leaves behind. He was a farmer most of his life, he was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church, he recently attended  "The Little Church", he loved college football, his favorite team is the Clemson Tigers. After his diagnosis with kidney problems, he wanted everyone to be aware of just how serious of a disease it is.

David is survived by his mother, Amelia Smith; his sons, Logan Smith and Caden Smith; and his grandchildren, Amelia Smith and Barrett Smith. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Tommy Smith (Carol), his sister Vicki Chaplin (Tommy), his brother Derrick Smith (Tanya), his sister Kelley Rudisell (Butch), and his brother Ashby Smith (Beth). Together, they carry forward his memory with affection and will hold close the place he will always have in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Theodore Smith, Sr.; his sister, Kim Haynes; his brother-in-law, Scott Haynes; his sister-in-law, Sue Smith; his grandparents, Tillman and Henrietta Smith; and his grandparents, Raleigh and Ila Mae Kelley.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home and Crematory in Hartsville, 1414 West Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, South Carolina 29550.
