Charles Sidney "Charlie" Newsom

Mr. Charles Sidney “Charlie” Newsom, 80, of Bishopville, passed away Thursday morning, June 10th, 2021, while at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday morning, June 12th, 2021, from the Newsom Family Cemetery with Reverend Kathy Carr officiating.  The family will be receiving friends following the service at the graveside.  Friends are invited to stop by Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville from 2-4 on Friday afternoon to view Charlie and sign the register.

A native and lifelong resident of Bishopville, Mr. Newsom was a son of the late Clarence Sidney & Lola Catoe Newsom.  Charlie enjoyed fishing and hauling cotton; he loved working his land.  Charlie was also a retired firefighter and above all, greatly loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gayle Newsom of the home; children, Charlene (Brian) King of McBee and Jennifer (Chad) Cottingham of Lynchburg; grandchildren: Jessica Young, Lewis (Heidi) Young, Jenna Cottingham, Cade Cottingham, Ansley King, and Landon King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Clarence Lever Newsom and a daughter, Gwen Newsom.
