Carolyn Estelle Roscoe Oliver

Hartsville, SC

     Carolyn was born in Hartsville, South Carolina to J.V. Roscoe and Doris Blackmon Roscoe. She grew up in Hartsville with her sister and best friend, Ann (Roscoe) Breckenridge. She attended Hartsville High School, where she played basketball and made lifelong friends like Judy Knight and Betty Jo.

     After completing training at Florence-Darlington Technical College, Carolyn moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, and married W.B. Oliver. She moved to Florence, SC, working as a receptionist and raised her four children, Benny, Vicky, Terri and Shari. She was always up for an adventure and spent many hours playing softball, skating and water skiing as well as taking her children on adventures. If there was a craft, she could make it and donated lots of time and effort to the fundraisers at their church.

     Once her children were grown, she moved around some to include Richmond, Virginia, and Germany. While in Germany with Shari and her family, she was able to travel and help raise four of her grandchildren. Finally, she settled in Society Hill, SC, to be close to her sister, Ann. She became a member of the Society Hill Town Council and helped with multiple fundraisers. Her true passion was her time spent helping with the Miss South Carolina Pageant. She spent the last three months of her life with her daughter, Shari, Shari’s husband, Stuart, and their family, in Colorado, where she eventually succumbed to cancer.

     Carolyn is survived by her four children, thirteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren; along with her sister, Ann (Roscoe) Breckenridge and her children and grandchildren.

     Her memorial service will be conducted at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon, November 28th, 2025, from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home.  The family will be speaking with friends following the service at the funeral home.
