Sweetie. Mama. Granny.
Brenda Sue went by many names over the years and every one was synonymous with love.
She was many things to many people during her time on this earth. A living example of Christ's love. Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Choir member. President and Woman of the Year to the Bethune Woman's Club. Member of Bethel Methodist Church. The Avon Lady. Sister. Friend. A pillar and lifelong resident of the Bethune community.
Brenda was with us from May 27, 1942 - October 22, 2025 and she filled every moment of her "-" with love. Sounds of singing to the radio and shouts of "Jackie" in the house. The colors of her flowers in every shape and size. Trips to the beach at Emerald Isle. Her infectious smile every time she saw a baby. Naps during thunderstorms and respect for God's power. Snuggles and back scratches. Sixty-three years of marriage to the young man she met at her parents' truck stop. Smells of Granny gravy when you called to put your name in the pot for lunch. Unwavering devotion to her hummingbirds and calls of, "Hummers... come get your juice!" that worked every time.
Granny lived for her kids. Her kids, their kids, their friends' kids. The great-grands, the cousins, and every kid in between. She was Granny to everyone and loved us all fiercely. Granny had a way of making time slow down when you were with her. She taught us how to find the joy and beauty in everyday moments.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Jack W. Knight, Bethune; sons, Richard W. Knight (Gina), Bethune, Tracy A. Knight (Karen), Hartsville; grandchildren, Kayla A. Edwards, Devin A. Knight (Hannah), William Alexander "Alex" Knight, Erin P. Knight, Gracie Brice and Oakley Brice; great grandchildren, Liam Edwards, Mia Edwards, Holden Knight, Jack Knight, Declan Knight; her sister, Mary Grace Brice (Eddy).
She was preceded in death by her parents John Marvin Catoe and Alma Grace Davis Catoe, and a brother John Maxie Catoe.
So take a note from Brenda. Slow down long enough to recognize your blessings. Love God and your people unconditionally. And next time you see one of her hummers, tell Granny we said hello.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Patsine Blount, McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Agape Care, and the staff at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center for their exceptional support and care.
Norton Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to be of service to the Knight family.
