Bobby Joe Knight

Bobby Joe Knight, age 72, passed away July 24 following a brief illness.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 26 at 11:00am at Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Bobby was the middle of 3 boys, born to James Wesley Knight and Selma Louise Welsh Knight on June 27, 1950.  Raised in the lower Appalachia foothills near Piedmont, Alabama, he was a graduate of Spring Garden High School (1968) and Gadsden Business College (1970).  After working his way through college, Bobby was hired by SONOCO and relocated to Atlanta before ending up in Hartsville just a few years later, for what would be a 46 year career before retiring in 2016.

Bobby was a good man, and a great father.  His greatest joy was being a dad and he lived his life since 1981 for the purpose of providing for and loving his son Wes.  He was the kind of father who made his love known.  In addition to his family, he loved his ‘neighbors’ and his country.

Surviving is his son, Wes Knight (Kali) of Bullard, TX and four grandsons, Dyllon Powers, Benson Knight, Britton Knight, and Braxton Knight; his brothers William Lee Knight (Janice) and James Edward Knight (Pamela) of Alabama as well as one nephew John Eric Knight and one niece Lori Knight Nance.

The family would like to thank the team at The Retreat at Carolina Bay Memory Care Unit for all they did to make these last 11 months fun and exciting for dad.  Additionally, we extend a warm thank you to the entire care team, physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center who fought so hard for dad and cared for both he and the family during his final week with us.  We would also like to say a special thank you to his neighbor Rodney Gainey, who always kept an eye out for Mr. Bobby.

For those planning to attend, the family encourages casual, comfortable attire for the service.

Any memorials can be directed to Flint Baptist Church, c/o Missions Committee, 11131 FM 2868, Flint, TX 75762.
