Billy Joe Johnson

In heartfelt remembrance of Mr. Billy Joe Johnson, we mourn his passing at the age of 88 on August 24, 2026, at Carolina Pines RMC in Hartsville, SC.

Born and raised in Hartsville, Billy was the beloved son of Virgil and Janie Gainey Johnson. Known for his dedication, he spent many years working with Kentco Heating and Air. Billy's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for catfish and crappie fishing at Santee and his joy in gardening. Music brought him happiness, especially playing the guitar. His faith was nurtured at Whispering Pines Baptist Church.

Billy leaves behind a loving family, including his children Chrystal Gandy and Milton Johnson (Mona); grandchildren Ginger Yengel (Andy), Stephanie Broach (Philip), Kristy Johnson, and Kasey Gainey (Michael); and great-grandchildren Dylan, Colton, Shane, Aaliyah, Breanna, Blake;  great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett, and Elaina.

He is reunited in eternal rest with his parents and siblings Virginia Gainey, McKinley Johnson, Bobbie Jean Dozier, Ruby Flowers, Annie Mae Shumate, Patsy Stephens, and Faye Steen.

At Billy’s request, no services will be held at this time. Norton Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to assist the Johnson family during this time.
