Arthur (Archie) Clarence Clawson passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of almost 64 years, Joan Benkowski Clawson; his four daughters, Cheryl Bellamy, Linda Pupa (Tom), Laurie Mitchell (Bruce) and Paula Thomson (Tom); his nine grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Jordan, Hannah, Matthew, Samantha, Blake, Savannah and Jessica; his great-grandson, Killian; his brother, Floyd Clawson; his sister, Karen Stumpf; and his half-brother, Floyd Clawson.
Archie was born on July 23, 1938, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, to Agnes and Floyd Clawson. After graduating from St. Veronica High School, where he broke the basketball scoring record as well as many hearts, Archie joined the Navy and married his childhood sweetheart Joan. After living in Virginia for a brief period, Archie and Joan moved their family back to Pennsylvania and then finally settled in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Archie retired from IBM after 43 years of service.
Archie appreciated the blessings life gave him. He was a simple man who lived a large and full life. Archie loved golf, the beach, fixing stuff, Two Buck Chuck, basketball, travel, lemon meringue pie, a good pool party, puttering around in his yard, tinkering on his computer, and making other people laugh. His greatest joy in life, though, was his family. This charming man will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered---his contagious laugh, his beautiful smile, and the ever present mischievous twinkle in his eye.
In remembrance of Archie Clawson’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org or Alzheimer’s Association - Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
