On July 4, 2023, Amanda Leigh Scearce (46) peacefully entered the gates of Heaven and into the arms of Jesus her Savior. She was surrounded by her family as she drew her last breath after along and hard-fought battle against glioblastoma.
Amanda was a dedicated teacher at The Kings Academy in Florence, SC for 10 years. She loved her students and colleagues with all her heart. She was so fiercely loyal to her students, her school, and her love of teaching that she never let the brain tumor, nor her treatments, or not being able to drive to school stop her from doing what she loved. The family has requested that Amanda’s students, colleagues, and any others who wish to honor her or share a memory to please send an email to mrsscearcetka@gmail.com. This will allow them to have a record of her impact on others in her life.
Amanda’s sarcastic eyerolls and her mischievous sense of humor were a huge part of her sparkling personality. She was fiercely devoted to and protective of her family, both close and extended, whom she loved deeply. Those who knew her were blessed with someone they could always turn to in times of need for a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, or a helping hand.
Amanda is remembered as a devoted wife to her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years Edward Lee Scearce, III (Buddy). She was a loving and caring mama to their three beautiful children Trotter, Maggie and Tobin.
She is also deeply missed by her mom Lesley [predeceased by her dad Ricky] Poff of Roanoke, VA; her sister Sherry [Greer] Reichow of Ashburn, VA; Nanny Pauline [predeceased by grandfather Derrick] Graves of Lowestoft, England; parents-in-law Ed [Lea] Scearce, Jr. ofLamar, SC; sister-in-law Jena Scearce of Hartsville, SC; brother-in-law Mark [Nicole] Scearce of Ashville, NC; brother-in-law Brad [Anglene] Scearce of Normal, IL; nephews Derrick and Michael Reichow, Kody Proffit, Nelson Scearce; and nieces Rose Scearce, Emalee and Madelynn Scearce. Amanda is predeceased by grandparents Roy and Sally Poff of Salem, VA. She is also mourned by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends from the entire span of her too short life.
We will be celebrating her life at a memorial service at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Darlington, SC on July 8, 2023, at 11am. Visitation with the family will be held before the service at 10am.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers we are asking everyone to consider giving to Amanda’s passion as a way to honor her. For the past ten years she taught at The Kings Academy (TKA) in Florence, SC. TKA is currently raising money to build a new classroom building. Please consider giving, even a small amount. She poured herself into the lives of her students and believed so much in the value of education. I would love nothing more than for us to raise a bunch of money to help TKA take the next step in providing an excellent Christian education. This would honor her and be a blessing to the people she loved. Please give!!
